The new install programs will create a folder called C:\MADCATZ and copy all the software on the diskette into this directory. These lines set an environment variable MADCATZ and also includes the MADCATZ directory into your path. The two lines added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT are:
set MADCATZ=C:\MADCATZ
set PATH=%PATH%;%MADCATZ%
The MADCATZ environment variable is used by the Assassin 3D
Maintenance Program (PANTHER.EXE) and the Assassin 3D Launch
Program (ALAUNCH.EXE) to find the Assassin 3D and game
configuration files. All of these files end in ".INI".
Instructions for modifying these files are included later in this
manual.
The only reason for adding the MADCATZ directory to the path is
for simplification in running the Assassin 3D Maintenance Program
and in launching the games. If your path is very long, you may
not want to add another directory to the list. So, rather than
adding the MADCATZ directory to the path, you can simply copy
PANTHER.EXE and ALAUNCH.EXE into a directory that is already
referenced in your path (e.g. C\WINDOWS\COMMAND)
