Setting up a Windows Shortcut

The easiest way to play games when using Windows 95/98 is through the use of shortcuts. You can create shortcuts on either your Desktop or in a Folder. The best place would probably be on your Start Menu. We will help you through creating a shortcut to DOS Quake on your Desktop. After you have created it you can move it to anywhere you would like it to be. See below for more detail.

1. Right click on your desktop, this will bring up a mini menu.

2. Move the cursor to New and select Shortcut.

3. In the command line type in c:\madcatz\alaunch.exe quake, and click Next.

4. For a Title type in Quake & Assassin 3D, and click Next.

5. Select any Icon you like and click Finish.

6. Right click the new Shortcut you just created and select Properties.

7. Click the Program Tab

8. You need to change the Working Directory to your Quake directory, (i.e. c:\quake)

9. Click on OK

10. Double click your new Icon to frag your friends.
    

If you already have a Working Shortcut for your game all you will need to do is edit the Command Line to include the Alaunch Command. Example: If your original Command line is C:\QUAKE\QUAKE.EXE all you need to do is edit it to C:\madcatz\ALAUNCH.EXE QUAKE.

Quake Shortcut

1. Right-click on a blank spot on your desktop (this brings up a mini-menu).
2. Move the cursor to New (this brings up another mini-menu).
3. Left-click on Shortcut (this brings up the Create Shortcut dialog box).
4. Type in the following: c:\fpgaming\alaunch.exe quake
5. Left-click on Next.
6. Type in the following: Quake & Assassin 3D
7. Left-click on Next.
8. Select an icon (your discretion).
9. Left-click on Finish.
10. Right-click on your newly created shortcut; Quake & Assassin 3D
11. Left-click on Properties
12. Left-click on the Program tab
13. Change the Working Directory to your quake directory (i.e. c:\games\quake).
14. Left-click on Okay
15. Double-click on your new shortcut to execute it!

Quake with Qlaunch Shortcut

1. Create or copy Q95A.BAT and locate it in your Quake game directory
2. Right-click on a blank spot on your desktop (this brings up a mini-menu).
3. Move the cursor to New (this brings up another mini-menu).
4. Left-click on Shortcut (this brings up the Create Shortcut dialog box).
5. Left-click on Browse and traverse to the Quake game directory.
6. Left-click on Q95A.BAT.
7. Left-click on Open.
8. Left-click on Next.
9. Type in the following: Quake, Qlaunch & Assassin 3D
10. Left-click on Next.
11. Select an icon (your discretion).
12. Left-click on Finish.
13. Double-click on your new shortcut to execute it!
