A bug has been found in the V1.4 alaunch.exe program. In your quake.ini file, you can set Qbtns = 1 to allow the Assassin 3D buttons to be passed to Quake (rather than adjusting the skill settings). Unfortunately, while the buttons are sent to Quake, the skill setting is still being changed with each button press. This bug has been fixed in the V1.4a alaunch.exe program. This update can be download from the Assassin 3D Driver Software page.
For reference, changing the Skills Settings sets the following parameters as follows:
BEGINNER
(Assassin 3D Left Button)Pressing the Beginner Skill Setting button sets the operation so that the user's maximum movement is medium speed (equivalent to up-arrow). [The joystick throttle can be used to switch to fast speed, if desired.] Any movement will invoke the automatic pitch-leveling. This means that the viewpoint will automatically level out when moving. This setting is good for about 30 seconds or setting someone loose that has never played a 3D action game before.
INTERMEDIATE
(Assassin 3D Middle Button)Pressing the Intermediate Skill Setting button sets the operation so that the user's maximum movement is 80% of Quake's maximum (shift up-arrow). [The joystick throttle can be used to switch to medium speed, if desired.] Additionally, automatic pitch-leveling is invoked, but only when the user is moving at 90% of their maximum movement. This allows free-looking while performing normal movement, but automatic pitch-leveling while running around. This setting is good for getting adjusted to the Assassin 3D and dungeon-trolling.
ADVANCED
(Assassin 3D Right Button)Pressing the Advanced Skill Setting button sets the operation so that the user's maximum movement is 100% of Quake's maximum (shift up-arrow). [The joystick throttle can be used to switch to medium speed, if desired.] Additionally, automatic pitch-leveling is disabled. So, the user has 100% free-looking regardless of their movement speed. This is the Skill Setting of choice for the Quake death-matcher.
